In spite of the proximity to the water the city does not always make use of this quality. Fisktorget is a plaza facing the sea and has traditionally been the market place for selling fish. Once also market hall stood here for such purposes, although torn down in the 1960s. The plaza has since been left open and unarticulated, separating the city from its waters rather than taking use of it.

One of the five programmed “Attractor Parcels” of Henning Larsen Architect’s urban master plan, the KAFD Conference Center emerges as an iconic structure within the District’s southern terminus to its central public “Wadi” landscape. In collaboration with the Center’s architect – SOM, HM White has led its scientific team to design and implement this fusion of landscape and structure. The landscape design re-introduces native arid grasses and flora into a large scale public space setting. These indigenous plant communities spatially organize and blur the boundaries between the building’s undulating “exoskeleton” skin and its surrounding structural desert landscape. Arabian Peninsula meadow desert grasses and trees emerge as the connective tissue and establish an appropriately scaled expansive campus landscape.

Amidst the 600 acre Satellite Township and a 75 acre Institutional segment, this 4 acre piece of land was identified closer to the lake to achieve maximum possible natural scenic value. The lake wraps around one third of the site and ensures to carry a cool breeze. Since a major part of the township is still under progress, coastal breeze carry all the dust from the construction site around. Thus from the other side, we had ensured within the campus that on ground the landscape design will manage to trap the dust at every way possible and to also ensure a better ground water percolation.

The brief was to transform a vacant block into a private and versatile family garden. The key element of the design is the path that begins outside the sun room and encircles the garden, to be used as a child’s running, walking or riding path. It crosses a timber bridge over a densely planted dry river bed, which is viewed across the garden from the house. The synthetic lawn is a hardy surface and caters for games, picnics or outdoor entertaining as an extension of the home.

The building of Zaryadye Park (Зарядье) is a landmark initiative of the Moscow City Government and has commissioned an international competition to develop the site. Zaryadye will be the first public park built in Moscow for over 50 years. It stands alongside the development of Ground Zero in New York, the reconstruction of the Reichstag in Berlin and the competition for a new cultural district in West Kowloon, Hong Kong.
International Design Competition for Zaryadye Park is a two-stage competition. The first stage is the Pre-qualification stage — six teams will be selected to participate in the second stage. The second stage is the Concept competition — selection of the winner and the finalists (second and third places).
We are inviting architects, landscape architects and urban planners, who can bring together multidisciplinary teams of specialists in the fields of engineering, management of public spaces, entertainment industry, cultural programming, economy, sociology, anthropology, dendrology, ecology and wildlife management.
