The Laboratory for Contemporary Urban Design at Tel Aviv University has a weekly meeting to study the urban spaces to develop an overall picture of how spaces and neighborhoods develop. The group gathers information on the ground and interviews residents for a later group discussion. The Laboratory for Contemporary Urban Design was set up in 2010 with seven members who hotly debate the urban planning of Israel.
If you create the same type of apartment and structure, without variety in the mix of the neighborhood, you in fact produce homogenous social environments. The interaction with ‘the other’ is completely lost.
The square is located in the western part of the Ben-Gurion University campus in the city of Beer-Sheva, Israel. The existing buildings encompassing the square (the Faculty of Art, social activities and the Administration building) and the art gallery to be built there in the future are all designed to offer services and to constitute links connecting with the community on subjects related to art and social contexts.

The planning concept included a comprehensive approach to landscape, out of a desire to minimize damage to plant and animal life. To reduce the amount of digging and filling in, 14 bridges with a combined length of 2.5 kilometers were erected, and three tunnels for the passage of animals were dug.
