Kai Tak Cruise Terminal Foster+Partners

A foundation stone laying ceremony, attended by the Chief Executive of HKSAR, senior government officials and representatives of the architects Foster + Partners and Dragages team, has been held recently to mark the start of construction of the new Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in Hong Kong. Reinventing the site of the former Kai Tak airport as one of the world’s foremost cruise terminals, the project will create a sustainable new gateway to the city and a major entertainment destination for residents.

West Kowloon Cultural District Concept Options revealed: OMA, Foster+Partners, Rocco


The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) has revealed the 3 conceptual plan options for the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) on Friday at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The three master plan options were undertaken as Stage 2 of the Public Engagement for the arrangement of arts and cultural facilities as well as various other land uses, including commercial, retail, hotel, residential and public open space.

The three Conceptual Plan Options revealed are:

  • City Park – prepared by Foster + Partners, led by Lord Norman Foster;
  • Cultural Connect: Key to Sustained Vitality – prepared by Rocco Design Architects Limited, led by Mr Rocco Yim; and
  • Project for a New Dimension – prepared by Office for Metropolitan Architecture, led by Mr Rem Koolhaas.

Public comment on the Options is open until 21 November 2010.

Winners announced for Bruce Lee Residence Competition

The Organising Committee of the Ideas Competition for Bruce Lee’s Residence announced the results for The Ideas Competition for Bruce Lee’s residence, launched on July 20, 2009, aimed to turn the former residence of the late Mr Bruce Lee into an attraction to commemorate Mr Lee’s contribution to martial arts and the film industry.

The competition was open to all in Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas countries and comprised two categories – the Professional Group and the Open Group. Over 140 entries were received from across the world and local team Cheung Kwai-yin and landscape architect Jimmy Yuen, won in the professional category of the design contest. The design, titled Journey of the Little Dragon, features a vaulting exhibition hall with an undulating ceiling, and a mirrored room named Tower of Death.

An roving exhibition of all the entries is available at Hong Kong City Hall from January 23 to February 4, Hong Kong Cultural Centre from February 9 to 16, and Shatin Town Hall from February 23 to March 6.
