Situated in the heart of downtown Chicago, the Crown Sky Garden is a sanctuary for patients, families, doctors and administrators within this 23 story Children’s Hospital. The commitment to this sky garden was built upon a growing body of scientific research which links access to natural light and contemplative spaces to reduced patient recovery time. This regenerative project offers a new paradigm for healthcare design that integrates healing gardens as part of the health care regiment within these institutional environments.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio is envisioned as a ‘Landscape of Healing’.  The project expands the principles of therapeutic gardens to the entire health care campus and neighboring community. The MKSK/OLIN team worked closely with the hospital architects, FKP, to integrate holistically the tower with the landscape.

New Campus & Healing Gardens for Nationwide Children's Hospital | Columbus USA | OLIN

OLIN  has designed the surrounding campus and healing gardens for the newly constructed hospital tower and research building of Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of America’s most prominent pediatric health care and research institutes, and has just completed the largest pediatric expansion project in U.S. history, adding 2.1 million square feet of clinical and research space. A dedication ceremony will take place on June 11, 2012. The new facility will open to the public on June 20, 2012, and is expected to welcome at least one million patient visits in its first year.
