Green infrastructure, including the installation of plants on under-utilised urban surfaces, can provide significant environmental benefits for our cities. These green interventions have the capacity to cool the urban environment, reduce energy consumption, mitigate flooding and increase habitats for biodiversity. They provide an opportunity to evolve the way we develop the built environment, to maximise existing infrastructure and lower the need for costly upgrades.

Following an international landscape design competition, HASSELL has been engaged by Nanjing Tangshan Construction Investment and Development Company to deliver the public realm for the Fangshan Tangshan National Geopark Museum. Located 40 kilometres east of Nanjing, the Museum’s 15 hectares of public open space occupies a geologically significant area within the national park and is the site of some of China’s most important archaeological discoveries.

Zaryadye Park Design Competition | UPDATE

Back in April we posted the announcement for Zaryadye Park Design Competition – the first public park built in Moscow for over 50 years. The organisers have announced that the received over 90 entries of which 87 teams were eligible for entry.  The list of team leaders shows that there is great interest from around the world with many of the teams having a track record of  winning major design competitions including Atelier Dreiseitl, Bjarke Ingels Group(BIG), Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Grant Associates, GROSS. MAX,  Gustafson Porter, HASSELL, James Corner Field Operations,  Mecanoo International, Miralles Tagliabue EMBT, MVRDV, OKRA,  Rainer Schmidt Landschaftsarchitekten, REX Architecture,  Skidmore, Owings & Merrill(SOM), SWA Group, TOPOTEK 1, Turenscape, W Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Zaha Hadid and 66 other teams.

The next stage is to select a final six teams who will proceed to Stage 2 - Concept competition.

HASSELL lights the way to Walsh Bay for Vivid Sydney

Vivid Sydney is an annual creative festival of light, music and ideas that each night transforms Sydney Harbour and its iconic architecture and public spaces into a canvas for spectacular light installations. This year, designers and artists from Australia and around the world have created 60 installations, including four HASSELL-supported works that feature in the Walsh Bay precinct – the location of the newly-opened HASSELL studio.
