HASSELL recently teamed up with not for profit organisation Archikidz and Sydney Living Museums, on a playful project to make kids seen and heard in the city. Together, the team created PLAY[ground] – a place that would inspire tomorrow’s thinkers and city makers to play, experiment and toy with ideas about the future shape of our cities.
The Fangshan Tangshan National Geopark, 40 kilometres east of Nanjing, is the site of one of the world’s most fascinating archaeological discoveries and home to China’s new Great Relic Museum. HASSELL designed the museum’s gateway plaza and surrounding parkland connections for the Nanjing Tangshan Construction Investment and Development Company, following an international landscape design competition.
HASSELL has announced Christie Stewart from the University of Western Australia as the winner of the 2015 HASSELL Travelling Scholarship – Robin Edmond Award.
Christie was selected following interviews with 18 students, nominated by the seven participating universities around Australia. Her research project, Ameliorating Agriculture: Cultivating Biodiversity, explored the integration of environmental and ecological systems design with emerging precision agriculture technology as an innovative approach to the sustainability challenges facing broadacre farmers in Western Australia’s wheatbelt. Last week we published the design concept for the The Immersery which has now opened to the public as the centrepiece of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. The Immersery is a cloud-like structure suspended above a floating bar and open-kitchen restaurant on the banks of Melbourne’s Yarra River designed by international design practice HASSELL, from a concept dreamt up by the team at Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. WLA interviewed HASSELL by email about the design and various aspects of the design process.
Later this week the 2014 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival opens to the public with a centrepiece designed by HASSELL. The cloud-like structure suspended above a floating bar and open-kitchen restaurant on the banks of Melbourne’s Yarra River. HASSELL designed The Immersery: Festival Kitchen, Bar and Raingarden from a concept dreamt up by the team at MFWF, and more than double the size of last year’s Festival hub. HASSELL designer Brenton Beggs said The Immersery brings the Festival’s water theme alive and offers a glimpse of the long term potential of the Southbank site.
Situated between the banks of Chongqing’s Qing Nian Reservoir and the Palm Spring Geological Park Lake; the floating Islands of Palm Island form a new hospitality precinct within the Palm Springs International Garden. The precinct comprises five buildings (the ‘islands’) collectively housing five restaurants and a teahouse, which have been unified with the surrounding landscape through the creation of a dramatic water courtyard.
