The redevelopment of the Bernardine Monastery Complex is based on the need to cultivate the district’s contemporary identity and needs while engaging with the site’s unique heritage. The system of open spaces and streets that encompass the complex need to reveal the multiple layers of both historic and contemporary events while editing the numerous urban configurations that obstruct the flow/flux of urban life.

Chinatown Upgrades | Sydney Australia | ASPECT Studios

The upgrades to Little Hay Street, Factory Street and Kimber Lane are stage one in the transformation of Chinatown’s Public Domain. The focus of the work is to uplift the public domain quality and strengthen the pedestrian connections, whilst improving lighting, furniture, and embracing the distinguishing character of each street or laneway by integrating site specific public artworks.

Student Project: Shifting Grounds | Singapore | Christina Ting

“shifting grounds – rethinking the residential public spaces in singapore”. The project focused on enhancing social interaction within the community through landscape interventions in and around void decks in Singapore’s urban residential estates.

Singapore is densely populated, thus majority of its residents live in public residential estates where the landscape is typified by “void decks”. 90% Of Singapore’s population live in public housing, which in singapore is referred to as mass housing. This is in contrast to Melbourne, where only 10% of the population live in public housing.

FED_SCRAPER | Washington DC | MAD_lab

FED_SCRAPER re-envisions the Washington DC National Mall, where federal program is cleared from the mega-blocks to be situated within the mall-void.  This allows mega blocks to be returned to a densely knitted interwoven fabric to take back these areas of the city.  Federal program thus becomes contained within the National Mall, putting physical limits on the exacerbated growth of the Federal Government.
