Morgan’s Pier is a restaurant on the west bank of the Delaware River in Philadelphia. Its owners wanted it to have a relaxed backyard feel that would encourage patrons to linger and enjoy its amenities: “We see ourselves as a connection to Center City—a place you can spend 12 hours at.” Groundswell Design Group developed a project that reflects the desires of the owners and respects the conditions of the restaurant’s waterfront setting.

Salwator Square | Kraków Poland | Land-Arch Partnership

This area is located in one of Krakow’s historical districts, though not directly in the city center. This pleasant, neighborhood required an eye-catching space that would reflect it’s original charm. Salwator district was based on the garden-city concept and now still is one of the more pleasant places in Kraków.

An Unexpected Hanging-Garden | Singapore | AgFacadesign
A recently completed building with 4 additional floors; the requirement was to replace an unsightly mesh-façade and improve on a bland and uninviting disused space behind it. Located within the prime Singapore Central Business District (CBD), the 1984 building is 10 storeys tall and was originally designed to be environmentally responsive with floors receding inwards with each lower floor. External RC Planters spanning across the building’s 24m width façade was meant for sun-shading.

The Mary & Al Schneider Healing Garden was designed as an integral part of the new Seidman Cancer Center. The garden creates an experience of respite for cancer patients, staff and families – an “Island” designed to both calm and delight one’s senses in the core of downtown Cleveland.

Guangzhou City Government announced that two winning entries were selected for the Guangzhou Fangchun Huadi Sustainable Master Plan competition. The two separate entries selected include the team of Rainer Schmidt Landscape Architects with Guangzhou Planning Design Institute and another entry by West 8.

The Plaza, Worli is a high end luxury retail development promoted by the prestigious Bombay Realty group of Mumbai. The 3 acre project is located in the heart of the upmarket district of Worli in Mumbai. The scheme comprises an elegant courtyard surrounded by colonnades which integrates a restored historic mill structure at one end. It will house exclusive fashion stores, lifestyle brands, al fresco dining and an entertainment platform.

VIDEO | Michael Van Valkenburgh discusses Notre Dame Sculpture Park

Construction has begun on a new sculpture park on the southern edge of the University of Notre Dame’s campus. Situated in a wooded, 8-acre dell that lies between the Irish Green and the Compton Family Ice Arena, the new park is a project of Notre Dame’s Snite Museum of Art and the office of the University Architect. It has been designed by the landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh who discusses in this short 5 minute video the overall design approach and plants used in the design.
