The final phase of public realm landscape design for Bristol’s award-winning Harbourside development has been completed by UK landscape architects Grant Associates for developer Crest Nicholson. The completion of the 15 year regeneration project comes as Bristol celebrates its status as European Green Capital in 2015 – awarded for the City’s outstanding commitment to sustainability, creativity, culture and innovation.

The London Legacy Development Corporation has recently announced that six teams have been shortlisted for the Olympicopolis Design Competition. The new culture and education quarter is part of the Olympicopolis vision for Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Over 43 high quality submissions comprising established companies and emerging practices which included 125 different architects from around the world.

Grant Associates, has unveiled details of its new landscape and public realm design for Capitol Singapore, a $1.1 billion mixed-use redevelopment of a key heritage site in the city’s downtown civic district. The first phase of the integrated development is due to open end 2014.

Grant Associates has been appointed to design the public realm for Watermark WestQuay Southampton – a £70m leisure-led regeneration scheme masterplanned by ACME for developers Hammerson.
Inspired by tidal mudflats, the strata in which the city of Southampton was first built apon, Grant Associates’ landscape design will comprise four key components: the plaza bringing a new open space for Southampton; the ancient historic town walls that form a distinctive backdrop to the spaces; the promenade that runs the length of the walls; and the steps and ramps that negotiate the 7 metre level change between the Bargate and the lower levels of Western Esplanade.

The new Far East Organization Children’s Garden opened yesterday (21 January), at Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay designed by Grant Associates. A major new feature of the 54 hectare Bay South Garden, the Far East Organization Children’s Garden will offer a one-hectare mix of play experiences for all ages, including water play, rainforest tree houses, ridge top trails and topiary pergola arches all in a special garden setting overlooking the Marina Reservoir.
WLA spoke to Andrew Grant from Grant Associates about this new feature at Gardens by the Bay.
WLA: Designing a space like the Far East Organization Children’s Garden must have been fun. As designers what was the fun part of the process of designing the garden?
Andrew Grant: To have the opportunity to develop a bespoke play space is a pretty special task in this age of off the shelf play packages, play equipment and risk management. We have had enormous fun imagining new play challenges and ideas for this project, not all of which found their way into the final scheme.
