Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre-Aspect Studios

Integration of the public realm with large scale buildings and facilities is the key to ASPECT Studios design for the new Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and the adjacent South Wharf mixed use precinct.

ASPECT Studios design allows continuous and seemingly uninterrupted access through the site and amongst the buildings. This was no small task for a precinct that contains a convention centre, hotel, retail, residential, public forecourts, promenades, laneways, heritage landscapes and the now refurbished Exhibition Centre Park.

The public realm is the external connective space and tissue of the precinct. It is about ‘places’ and ‘paths’, providing an engaging, directional and textured environment, to complete the missing link in the natural progression along the Yarra River from Southgate through Freshwater Place, Crown Casino and on to the Yarra’s Edge residential precinct.

Competition set to breathe new life into London’s Docklands – British Waterways

British Waterways, in partnership with H20 Urban Ltd, has today announced the winners of a competition to remodel five historic Spits Barges to create an exceptional mixed use scheme in London’s Docklands.

The winning practices have been announced as:

• BACA – an award winning research led practice noted for their work around climate change and flooding, and;
• PCKO – also an award winning practice, noted for their work in creating attractive buildings that respect the environment and utilise innovative technology.

Both submissions impressed the judges with their ability to challenge traditional perceptions of waterspace design, whilst retaining continuity with the commercial past of the Barges and their surroundings.
