What is a wetland worth?

According to Department of Environment Protection(DEP) in Connecticut about $250,000. Recently a wetland next to Route 7 in Danbury, CT was filled in with gravel by a Department of Transportation(DOT) contractor during the widening of  road. The DOT and DEP have come to an agreement as a civil penalty for the damage to the wetland in lieu of a fine. A remediation plan will have to be drafted and the project is expected to finish in spring 2012.
