Our rapidly urbanizing world is faced with a very real challenge — supporting a larger population with fewer resources. The UN reports that by 2050, the global population will swell to 9.1 billion — with 6.3 billion people predicted to live in urban areas.  This unprecedented urban growth requires a novel approach to alleviate food scarcity, and a shift in preconceptions about what the urban fabric can offer.  The re-imagining of cities as a bastion for urban agriculture has spurred a number of provocative designs.  While many of the schemes succeed in bringing food production closer to where it’s consumed, they are still too energy inefficient to serve as viable models. In 2010, as the Jurong Birdpark positioned itself as a Garden Of Paradise, the overall master plan of Jurong Birdpark was divided into five geographic zones: South East Asian, European, South American, African and Australasian zone. Each Zone has its own garden theme and exhibits with a beautiful and unique landscape, and indigenous plants respective to each region and is enhanced by charismatic sculptures to increase the visitors’ memorable experience in the park.

Design Competition for Hong Kong’s proposed cycleway parking areas

The proposed cycleway in Hong Kong’s New Territories is holding a design competition to contribute innovative conceptual design of cycle parking racks and layout of the cycle parking areas that can be blended into the design of the entry/exit hubs and resting stations.
