The Plaza occupies a difficult site in Cambridge, at the seam between Harvard’s historic Yard and its North Campus, and in a public right-of-way atop a roadway tunnel laden with city and University utilities. The site was a busy cross-roads for students and faculty moving between classes and residences, for city residents walking to nearby subway and bus stations, and for visitors touring the campus or visiting one of the University’s museums.

Breathe | International Design Competition for a new urban village

Future Christchurch has launched Breathe, an International Design Competition to design a new urban village in Central City Christchurch. Designers from throughout the world are invited to influence the way the new generation of Central City residents will live within their environment and what type of communities they will want to be part of. Christchurch’s new urban village will offer medium density housing with easy access to green space, the new performing arts precinct, retail and entertainment areas, and transport and recreation facilities.

AIDS Memorial new design approved by Community Board

New York City AIDS Memorial new design approved by community board
The New York City AIDS Memorial organization recently announced that Community Board 2 has voted in favor of the new design for a memorial. The memorial will honor the 100,000+ New York City residents lost to AIDS and recognize the ongoing epidemic.

How much is your local park worth?

NYC Parks department is taking corporate sponsorship and partnerships to the next level – dog runs and basketball courts. Cities have raised funds through corporate sponsorship and naming rights of sports stadiums, entertainment arenas,  events, parades, subway/train stations, bus shelters and minor sporting facilities. Parks departments are always under pressure as the establishment and maintenance of parks can be a large monetary burden on cities with little income from rental and/or membership fees. Many cities across the world have abandoned, closed parks and also reduced park maintenance to a minimum to save funds in the long running economic crisis.
