Adams-Sangamon park breaks ground

What made the recent groundbreaking for the new park at Adams and Sangamon Streets, currently known as Park 542, so “exciting” is “the new design,” said Chris Gent, deputy director of planning and development for the Chicago Park District.

Landscape architect Ernie Wong from Site Design Group was on site for the groundbreaking, along with Aldermen Robert Fioretti (2nd) and Walter Burnett Jr. (27th) and several other City and neighborhood leaders.

MVVA selected for northern end of Grant Park

Chicago Journal reports

A Brooklyn-based landscape architecture firm has been recommended to lead the revamp of the northern end of Grant Park, one of the most prominent — and, in recent times, most contentious — public spaces in Chicago.

Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates Inc. will plan an area that includes the Grant Park site of the Chicago Children’s Museum, according to a letter park district staff posted on the agency’s Web site on Tuesday.

City’s second waterfront: Riverwalk improved, but hurdles remain – Chicago Tribune

In recent weeks, scores of walkers, joggers, bicyclists and others have discovered the riverwalk that just opened on the Chicago River’s south bank. Stretching from east of the Michigan Avenue Bridge to Wabash Avenue, with an extension to State Street due to wrap up in early July, the handsome, people-friendly public space marks the latest step in Mayor Richard Daley’s ambitious drive to make the riverfront a prime public space downtown and in the city’s outlying neighborhoods.

Daniel Burnham Memorial finalists announced, but designs kept under wraps – chicagotribune.com

“The three finalists are David Woodhouse Architects of Chicago, Hoerr Schaudt landscape architects of Chicago and Sasaki Associates of Watertown, Mass., a planning, landscape architecture and architecture firm.”
