National Workers’ Memorial winning design is by Sydney based architecture firm, Johnson Pilton Walker.  A memorial is to be established in the Canberra, Australia to honour, and pay tribute to those working Australians who have lost their lives through work-related accidents, incidents or disease. The winning design was developed by Sydney based architecture firm, Johnson Pilton Walker.

In 2004 following devastating fires in January 2003 and inspired by Griffins’ vision for the National Capital, the ACT Government developed a proposal for an International Arboretum to be established on a 250 hectare site six kilometres from the centre of Canberra, at the western side of Lake Burley Griffin. In 2004 the ACT Government held an international design competition and Taylor Cullity Lethlean (TCL) / Tonkin Zulaikha Greer’s (TZG) entry, 100 Forests / 100 Gardens was selected as a result of a two stage selection process.

Gallery of Australian Design opens in Canberra

A new gallery showcasing Australian Design has been opened in Canberra known as the Gallery of Australian Design. The Gallery is a partnership between National Museum of Australia, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), Australian Institute of Architects,  and the University of Canberra.

National President of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, Mr Neil Hobbs, is delighted at the opportunity to be able to present the best of Australian design. “Having such a facility in the centre of Canberra will showcase the best of Australia’s designers to the public.  It will also allow enhanced collaboration between design disciplines.”
