The Australian Garden is complete | Melbourne Australia | TCL and Paul Thompson

In a former sand quarry, a new botanic garden has been completed, one that allows visitors to follow a metaphorical journey of water through the Australian landscape, from the desert to the coastal fringe.

Seeds of Change | Bristol UK | Gitta Gschwendtner & Maria Thereza Alves

‘Seeds of Change’ is a floating garden; the result of a collaboration between the designer Gitta Gschwendtner and the artist Maria Thereza Alves. The title ‘Seeds of Change’ stems from an ongoing ballast seed garden project from Brazillian artist Maria Thereza Alves. Between 1680 and the early 1900′s ships’ ballast – earth, stones and gravel from trade boats from all over the world used to weigh down the vessel as it docked- was offloaded into the river at Bristol. This ballast contained the seeds of plants from wherever the ship had sailed.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden: Visitor Center

With the approach of its centennial in 2010, the Garden looks forward to both celebrating past achievements and creating new ways to engage and inspire future generations. In this spirit, BBG is pleased to unveil plans for an extraordinary new Visitor Center pavilion, which will break ground in summer 2009 and open in 2011. Already receiving acclaim, it has been presented with a prestigious Award for Excellence in Design by the Public Design Commission of the City of New York.

The proposed building is the design of the award-winning New York City architectural firm of Weiss/Manfredi, known for its sensitive integration of architecture, art, infrastructure, and landscape design.
