The eagerly anticipated 2016 Triumph Pavilion at the Museum Gardens in Bethnal Green, London, next to the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum of Childhood has now opened to the public with great applause. The Triumph Pavilion project is an annual showcase and on the whole a unique and exciting celebration of architecture and design. It encourages architectural experimentation and exploration including form, function and material. The Pavilion is also part of this year’s London Festival of Architecture.

For the Serpentine Pavilion 2016, we have attempted to design a structure that embodies multiple aspects that are often perceived as opposites: a structure that is free-form yet rigorous, modular yet sculptural, both transparent and opaque, both box and blob.

In recent decades, the Philippines has witnessed consistent population and economic growth. Official statistics estimate the country will grow by 50 million people in the next 35 years, straining already congested and rapidly expanding metropolitan areas such as Manila. This growth comes at the expense of agricultural land, compromising the lifeline of existing communities and the food supply of future generations. Single-use gated communities are the norm, whose poor public realm and connectivity force residents to drive to their everyday needs. A complete disregard for natural systems has exacerbated issues surrounding flooding, regional water quality and supply.

Agence Ter and Team were recently announced as winners of the Pershing Square Renew design competition. Pershing Square Renew announced an international Design Competition in the Summer of 2015 to Reimagine the Heart of Los Angeles. On April 28, 2016, the four finalists presented their proposals to a packed theater of over 1,000 local citizens who were invited to share their aspirations and insights. The finalists included SWA | Morphosis; wHY+Civitas; James Corner Field Operations with Fredrick Fisher and Partners and Agence Ter and Team.

WLA Magazine is putting out the CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS for WLA 26. The next edition of WLA Magazine is unthemed and we are looking for great projects from across the world. Projects can be built or unbuilt(conceptual) and can include either design or research based projects.
This edition is unthemed and is open to submissions of built and unbuilt (conceptual) landscape architecture work. We are looking for the best work from around the world that provides our readers with a diverse range of projects. Previous submissions include urban plazas, parks, playgrounds, art installations (sculptural, lighting, temporary works and popups), gardens, retail development, roof gardens, wetlands, masterplanning documents, landscape urbanism and many more. We welcome designers and firms to submit their works by Friday June 3 (11:59pm Honolulu time).
