Just arrived in the WLA mailbox is the Autumn edition of Landscape – The Journal of the Landscape Institute. This edition covers the Landscape Institute Awards 2012 and also a few interesting articles about 2016 Olympics Rio masterplan, Remaking Cities and the Highline for London Competition. The section I enjoyed reading was Debate – Should landscape architects be activists?. Landscape is published quarterly by the Landscape Institute.

2012 In Review | August

August saw the plans for the 2012 London Olympics Legacy plans unveiled including North Park by erect architecture, South Park by James Corner Field Operations. We also published 2016 Olympics Masterplan and Diverse Networks by Openfabric.

Olympics 2016 | Rio de Janeiro Brazil | AECOM

With the 2012 Olympic summer games over in London the flag has been passed onto Rio de Janeiro for 2016 Olympics. AECOM won the  International Competition for the Urban Master Plan of the Rio 2016 Olympic Park las  August. Once again cities are incorporating planning for a ‘Games Mode’ and a ‘Legacy Mode’ where the area is slowly transformed over the proceeding years into new uses. Previous Olympic Parks have had varying rates of success transformed areas of cities including Sydney and Beijing(although there are still issues surrounding the main stadium), whereas Athens has fallen into disrepair and been hard hit by the financial crisis.
