Solid results for LUC in the run up to its 50th anniversary year

LUC – Independent planning, landscape design and ecology consultancy, has reported 6.2% growth and a four-fold increase in pre-tax profit in the year ended 31 December 2015, taking its turnover to approximately £7.5 million as it enters its 50th anniversary year.

LUC was one of the first multi-disciplinary environmental consultancies set up in the UK by eminent and influential environmentalist and former Director General of the Nature Conservancy, Max Nicholson, in 1966. Today it employs 120 people in London, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Jeremy Owen, Chair of LUC said: “Our results show steady growth and we continue to operate with a strong balance sheet, a loyal client base and a talented team – a large number of whom have been with us for many years.

“As we celebrate 50 years in business, we are proud of what we have achieved and the opportunities we’ve had to work on significant schemes that make a real difference to the communities they serve, such as the Eden Project and all eight Royal Parks, which we’ve been enhancing and protecting for 40 of our 50 years. The breadth and depth of this experience mean we are well placed to help our clients navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

LUC offers a range of services to clients in the public and private sector including, Environmental Impact Assessments, which it pioneered in the early 1970s, development planning, strategic planning and assessment, landscape architecture, urban design, and ecology. The company was named Planning Consultancy of the Year, 2015-16, in the Planning Awards in recognition of its achievements.

Recent projects include major Green Belt studies for Oxford and Greater Manchester to inform options for growth of the two cities, England’s most detailed interactive map of light pollution in England for Campaign to Protect Rural England, Scotland’s first national survey of marine and coastal recreation and tourism, and the Camden Active Spaces project which recently won the NLA Wellbeing award.
