Its that time of year again when Design Intelligence releases their list of Best American Architecture Schools for 2012 including the best landscape architecture schools. The list has changed from 2011 when we last reported on the list with Pennsylvania State University moving up the rankings in the Undergraduate degrees and Kansas State University rising up the best Graduate School list.
Design Intelligence asked numerous firms “In your firm’s hiring experience in the past five years, which schools are best preparing students for success in the profession?” and the Top 5 for Undergraduate and Graduate schools are:
In the undergraduate rankings California Polytechnic State Univ., San Luis Obispo rose from 8th in 2011 to equal 3rd in 2012 and Pennsylvania State University rose from 6th (2011) to 2nd (2012). Looking at the list for Graduate Schools, Kansas State University climbed the list from 8th (2011) to 2nd(2012). There was also some movement down the rankings with Texas A&M University and University of Virginia slipping down the Graduate School listings.
In the Dean’s Survey the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Harvard University came in the top spots for most admired undergraduate and graduate schools respectively. The survey also lists the results from the Student’s Survey with each school given a break down including Ball State University, CalPoly, Colorado State, Harvard, Iowa State and many other schools. The report also notes the average debt load for landscape architecture.
