World-Class Design and Sustainable Development Take the Spotlight at 38th Los Angeles Architectural Awards

Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) honored the region’s finest architecture design projects, including the new Los Angeles Green Building Award, at the 38th Annual Los Angeles Architectural Awards. The Awards Program, which recognizes entire project teams (architects, developers and contractors), spotlighted the abundance of world-class architecture and sustainable development being built in Los Angeles today.

First Landscape Park Opens in Sochi :: Russia-InfoCentre

The first landscape mini-park has opened in the Russian city of Sochi. On the territory of the park visitors can get acquainted with various forms of the urban environment organization, including an unusual fountain made from solitary and gardens of cactuses of different shapes.

Besides, on the territory of the park there is an exposition of Japanese landscapes with small gardens and small Asian architecture.

According to the city administration, the park creators will gratuitously consult the visitors on beautification of the house land plots and organization of the landscape design elements.

Explore Design ’08: The Design Education Fair for Youth

Explore Design (ED) is North America’s first Education Expo dedicated to the design discipline. Explore Design is a structured two-day event where students are provided with the information required to pursue an education, and ultimately a career in the world of design. Students interested in design will be presented with all the information needed to make an educated decision about their future in a contemporary, interactive, and experimental environment. Educational institutions, associations and professional groups will all be accessible to student attendees.

EU Commission discusses soil degradation and climate change – Jerusalem Post

The European Commission last week hosted a high-level conference on the relationship between soil and climate change, and the role of soil management in climate change mitigation and adaptation. Organic matter plays a fundamental role supporting soil fertility, retaining water, sustaining biodiversity and regulating the global carbon cycle. But organic matter is in decline, and the conference heard how large amounts of carbon have been lost to the atmosphere in recent years.
