Kiryat Sefer Park – a `Hidden Treasure` in Tel Aviv, Israel

Kiryat Sefer Park is one of the last remaining open spaces in the densely populated center of Tel Aviv. In the mid-1990s, the lot which had previously served as a police garage became vacant and plans for the construction of a high-rise residential complex in its place began. These plans sparked a 15 year long community campaign advocating for an ecological and democratic public park. In 2010 this campaign achieved its goal when the municipality decided to build a public park instead of the housing project.

WLA Magazine puts out the call for submissions for edition 24. This edition is unthemed and is open to submissions of built and unbuilt (conceptual) landscape architecture work. We are looking for the best work from around the world that provides our readers with a diverse range of projects. Previous submissions include urban plazas, parks, playgrounds, art installations (sculptural, lighting, temporary works and popups), gardens,  retail development, roof gardens, wetlands, masterplanning documents, landscape urbanism and many more. We welcome designers and firms to submit their works by February 5 (11:59pm Honolulu time).

Mountain landscapes have been subjected to a relentless conflict between conservative-picturesque attitudes and economic exploitation approaches. The project proposes a strategy that understands the river as a water-sediment management machine that choreographs newly manufactured riparian landscapes in order to put forward a decision-making mechanism to face the conflicting perspectives with existing social formations.

The 816 Congress Roof Transformation converted unsightly, inaccessible spaces into unique green roofs and subsequently profitable building assets. The resulting main terrace has become a tenant retreat and a coveted event space, offering unprecedented views of the Texas State Capitol and its grounds. This building, designed for another era, is now competing with modern and newly built office space in downtown Austin.

The Lotus vision represents long life and good fortune – symbolic of purity and spiritual nature with unfolding petals suggesting an expansion of the soul.

A place of openness and exchange
To build a new library is to give to one’s community, to make a gesture of openness, of exchange, of culture and of urbanity. Situated in the multi-ethnic borough of Saint-Laurent on a busy urban boulevard, the library is one of a series of public structures with a lush woodland park running behind them. Founded on the prioritization of the user’s perception, the library and its landscape offer a contemporary place of varied experiences. It is a place of openness and exchange devoted to discovery, communication and interaction.
