Mayor has plan to deal with building height limit

Chula Vista city officials are preparing for a citizens initiative on the June ballot that, if successful, would lock in strict building height limits citywide.

The initiative, sponsored by community activist and real estate investor Earl Jentz, aims to secure a 45-foot height limit for new buildings on Third Avenue between E and G streets, and an 84-foot limit for most other areas east of Interstate 5.

It exempts certain areas near mass transit, and the future site of a planned eastern urban center with an educational campus, high-end retail stores and a technology park.
