Designing Oxford’s first public rooftop garden for Westgate Oxford | LDA Design

Westgate Oxford

The new 800,000 sq ft (74,300 sq. m) Westgate Oxford development includes the city’s first public roof garden, designed by LDA Design. The former Westgate Centre is being redeveloped by the Westgate Oxford Alliance, a joint venture between Land Securities and The Crown Estate, and being transformed into a new fashion and food district for Oxford.

The roof garden has been designed around a kitchen garden concept and creates a series of unique outdoor spaces for 12 bars and restaurants, affording arresting panoramic rooftop views of the Oxford city skyline and the Countryside. A grass ‘quad’ with a retractable canopy will feature as the main area for the public to enjoy the views from.

The £440m shopping and leisure destination will open on 24 October this year, and is already 70% let. Westgate Oxford will be home to more than 100 new stores, 25 restaurants and cafes, a boutique cinema, and a wealth of new public spaces.
