IFLA APR Conference – Incheon, South Korea Sep 1-4

The theme for the IFLA APR Conference is ‘Hybrid & Convergence of City and Landscape Architecture.’ By doing so, we are to discuss a new paradigm facing the landscape architecture in the 21st century ‘Knowledge-Information and Creative Society’ and seek for insightful approaches to practice the visions.

A city we are living in today is ushering in the era of urban regeneration in the new framework of urbanization in the globalized world: high urbanization ratio, high conversion into mega cities, networked cities and urban sustainability. We believe that at the IFLA APR Congress to be held as a part of Incheon ‘Global Fair · Festival 2009 Incheon,’ you will have precious opportunities to see and explore yourself the work sites in Korea that are to map out a new relationship between urban and landscape architecture , and to contribute to urban competitiveness through convergence of city and landscape architecture.

ANNOUNCING THE REBURBIA DESIGN COMPETITION! – INHABITAT

Dwell Magazine and Inhabitat.com are pleased to announce the first ever Reburbia competition: a design competition dedicated to re-envisioning the suburbs.

With the current housing crisis, the sub-prime mortgage meltdown, and rising energy costs, the future of suburbia looks bleak. Suburban communities in central California, Arizona and Florida are desolate and decaying, with for sale and foreclosure signs dotting many lawns. According to the US Census, about 90% of all metropolitan growth occurred in suburban communities in the last ten years. Urbanites who loathe the freeways, big box stores and bland aesthetics stereotypical of suburbia may secretly root for the end of sprawl, but demographic trends indicate that exurban growth is still on the rise.
