The Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) is pleased to announce the awarding of the 11th Veronica Rudge Green Prize in Urban Design to two projects, The Metro do Porto in Porto, Portugal, and the Northeastern Urban Integration Project in Medellín, Colombia, in a ceremony to be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. in Piper Auditorium at the GSD. Rahul Mehrotra, Professor and Chair of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, and Prize Jury Chair, will host a panel discussion including presentations by representatives (designers and administrators) of the two winning teams. The event will be followed by a reception and viewing of the exhibition Transformative Mobilities: Porto & Medellín, installed in the GSD’s Gund Hall gallery.

“If there are lessons to be drawn for urban design from Medellín and Porto, I think the broader lesson has to do with the disruption of the segregation of the disciplines in the design field. Historically we have understood that Landscape Architecture sits in one place, Architecture in another, and Urban Design and Planning [in another, with all three disciplines] in constant conflict about their territorial rights. One of the things that is revolutionary about the Medellín project is that distinguishing among the disciplines is no longer possible.” Michael Sorkin – Jury Member

EVENT | ENYA 2014 Biennial Ideas Competition | Launch Party | 22 August

qway_web
Emerging New York Architects (ENYA) is holding a launch party on 22 August for their  2014 Biennial Ideas Competition -  QueensWay Connection: Elevating the Public Realm. The QueensWay is an abandoned elevated railway snaking through some of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in central and southern Queens. To successfully transform the QueensWay into a viable green space, the design must include a strong connection between the proposed elevated park and the adjacent urban fabric below.

The QueensWay Connection: Elevating the Public Realm ideas competition seeks proposals which envision this vertical connection as a community hub which extends the street activity up to the future park.

At the launch party, ENYA will be presenting the premise of the competition. Comments will also be made by Adrian Benepe, Senior Vice President of The Trust for Public Land and representatives of Friends of the QueensWay.

LAUNCH PARTY AUGUST 22, 6-8PM
The Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place NY, NY 10012

The James Rose Center is pleased to announce its third international Residential Design Competition/Exhibition. of Suburbia Transformed 3.0 is to promote and celebrate residential designs that go beyond “green” by explicitly using sustainable strategies, tactics and technologies to enrich the aesthetic spatial experience of people.
