Solar-powered cars begin race to Calgary

CBC.ca reports that 15 solar-powered cars, including four managed by teams from Canadian schools, rolled out of a suburb of Dallas, Texas, on Sunday en route to Calgary in the 2008 North American Solar Challenge.

The race should end on July 22 at the University of Calgary

RMJM help inner city youths become architects

Scotsman.com reports that RMJM the Edinburgh based firm has launched a  project worth £1m  in conjuction with the Stephen Lawrence Trust to encourage more inner city youths from ethnic minorities to pursue a career in architecture.

RMJM worked on the Scottish Parliament building hopes that the project will increase the diversity and creativity of architecture and help address the global skills shortage that will become more pressing over the next 25 years as more architects retire.

Climate Change top of the Agenda @ G8

Numerous news sources have reported on the G8 summit with Climate Change seen as the one of the top issues that needs to be addressed. The other critical issues are being referred to as the 3F Crisis – Food, Fuel, Finance. With many countries heading into slow down and some a recession with high inflation and the skyrocketing price of oil.

Reuters reports that The G8 has gone green with this summit with Carbon Offsetting of all attendees and reporters of flights, hotel accomodation. Also the car fleet being a mix of plug ins, hybrids and hydrogen vehicles including the Honda FCX Clarity recently announced to be leased to Californians. Read more at Reuters

Wildcard storm the Danish Embassy – London Festival of Architecture

Collaborating with Hemingway Design, Wildcard Creative have designed and produced another dynamic space in which to showcase the most exciting talent in the Danish Architectural community.

London, UK (PRWEB) July 5, 2008 — Leicester based design agency Wildcard Creative have taken over the underground car-park of the Arne Jacobsen designed Danish Embassy in London for sust-DANE-able, an exhibition of sustainable Danish Architecture. Wildcard transformed the entire space with over 1000 CAD cut cardboard profiles up to 3 metres high, incorporating plasma screens, audio and digital print. The entire installation uses recycled materials and will eventually be recycled at the end of its life.
