This ground-breaking symposium has been organized to address the role of urban design in the face of one of the most profound and important challenges facing global society: the need to re-imagine and rethink how cities are designed and organized in a future without the plentiful and abundant oil upon which prosperous urban economies have been built.

West 8 participates in the 11th International Architecture Exhibition, Venice Italy

As part of the 11th International Architecture Exhibition “Out There: Architecture Beyond Building”, West 8 will participate in “Uneternal City. Thirty years after Roma interrotta”. This is a specific section in the Artiglierie dell’Arsenale dedicated to the city of Rome.

Together with eleven other Italian and international design studios West 8 was asked to re-imagine the City of Rome.

Hyder appoints new CEO

 Ivor Catto, currently a member of the Executive Board of Atkins, has been named as successor to Tim Wade as chief executive of Hyder Consulting.

He will take on the role on 1 December. Tim Wade, who had announced he would retire on 31 August, will stay on until that date.

Gulf Landscaping – Abu Dhabi

Solar-powered cars begin race to Calgary

CBC.ca reports that 15 solar-powered cars, including four managed by teams from Canadian schools, rolled out of a suburb of Dallas, Texas, on Sunday en route to Calgary in the 2008 North American Solar Challenge.

The race should end on July 22 at the University of Calgary
