Marking of Georgetown – Ideas Competition

The State Government of Penang, Malaysia invites submissions for an international competition for design ideas to physically brand the historic city of George Town, Penang in conjunction with its listing as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.

Design category: Marking of Public Space
Using available public spaces to mark the World Heritage Site of George Town e.g., walls (public, or possibly private heritage buildings), roads, access points, pedestrian walkways, shelters, bus-stops, manholes, public signages, lamppost, bus stops etc. The winning entry will enter into negotiations with the State Government of Penang, Malaysia to implement the design.*

Stage 1 Prize: RM 10,000 ($US2800)
Deadline – Registration 15 October – Stage 1 Submission 15 November

New Bridge Design competition for Calgary

The Calgary Municipal Land Corporation(CMLC) has announced a bridge design competition for St.Patrick’s Bridge.

CMLC has been charged with the responsibility of implementing public infrastructure improvements that will be the catalyst for private and public sector development in the Rivers District with a focus on East Village. The design and construction of a pedestrian/bicycle bridge – St. Patrick’s Bridge – is an important component of the infrastructure improvements in the Rivers District. CMLC has initiated a competitive process for the conceptual design of the pedestrian/bicycle bridge which crosses the Bow River and provides crucial links between the communities on the north and south of its banks with city attractions, amenities and pathway systems.

CMLC is committed to ensuring that the revitalization of the Rivers District provides the city, the province and the country with an excellent asset for Calgary to remain among the best places in the world to live, work, play and visit.

Taipei Pop Music Center International Design Competition

To encourage pop music creation, patronage performing talents and teams, integrate relevant peripheral industrial development, the R.O.C. plans to build a large pop music performing center in northern Taiwan with outdoor performing plaza and relevant measures. It is aimed to support development of the pop music industry in Taiwan with the goal of becoming the leading center of the Chinese creative music development internationally and for industrial experiment. The government is now actively pushing for the Northern Taiwan Pop Music Center Construction Plan.

With an area of approximately 7.65 hectares, the center base is located in Nangang District, Taipei City, nearby the MRT Kunyang Station. The principal space design comprises of an indoor performing hall with 4500-6000 seats, an outdoor performing space with 15000 standing seats, exhibition space for reputed musicians, a digital library, a medium and small indoor exhibition and performing live house, industrial communities and incubation space, etc.
