Back in August we put the notice out for the International Search for Barangaroo Central Master Planning Team. After a review of all submissions the Authority’s Recommendation Panel has shortlisted 5 teams to deliver presentations and participate in interviews, prior to the final selection being made in December 2012.

The Landscape Institute has announced that twenty-five projects and designs are competing for this year’s prestigious President’s Award. Now in their sixth consecutive year, the 2012 Landscape Awards will be presented by Pam Warhurst, co-founder of Incredible Edible and Chair of the Board of the Forestry Commission, at a lunchtime ceremony on Thursday 29th November.

Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates with Thomas Phifer & Partners has won the international design competition to design Waller Creek, a thin, urban riparian ecosystem that meanders for through Austin, Texas from the northern part of the City southward through The University of Texas at Austin campus and along the eastern edge of the downtown area before it meets Lady Bird Lake. The MVVA Team, led by Michael Van Valkenburgh and Thomas Phifer, brings together professionals aiming to, “create an exciting and humane landscape that will be critical to great city life in Austin.”

The Biomimicry 3.8 Institute is holding its 4th Annual Biomimicry Student Design Challenge. The challenge theme for this year is Water Wise: Biomimetic Solutions to Water Access and Management. During this year’s Challenge they ask you to examine how nature manages this precious resource and apply what you learn to a local or global water challenge.

Design competition for a Lighting Master plan for the future urban development of Kruunuvuorenranta as a part of Helsinki. On the site, a former oil harbour, a new residential area will be built containing 10.000 houses and its neighbourhood facilities. The assignment consists of a Lighting Master plan which could give guidance to the development of Kruunuvuorenranta by: creating a functional lighting plan and introducing an attractive nightscape seen from a distance.
