Green roof for library – WalesOnline

DEVELOPERS have planted a grass roof on Cardiff’s new central library.

The sedum turf will help insulate the 55,000sq ft six-storey building in the winter and keep it cool in the summer.

Top European planner ‘astonished’ by rural housing sprawl – The Irish Times – Fri, Oct 24, 2008

Virna Bussadori, president of the European Council of Spatial Planners, told The Irish Times that “green land shouldn’t be used for building houses everywhere” and the Government should be doing more to protect these areas.

Urban Planning Expert to head Australian Major Cities Unit

Ms Dorte Ekelund – a person with more than 25 years of urban planning experience – will head up the new Major Cities Unit within the Office of Infrastructure Australia.

As head of the Major Cities Unit, Ms Ekelund will advise government on urban design and development at a time when there is more pressure than ever before on our cities from challenges such as climate change, ageing infrastructure and population growth.
