The London Legacy Development Corporation has recently announced that six teams have been shortlisted for the Olympicopolis Design Competition. The new culture and education quarter is part of the Olympicopolis vision for Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Over 43 high quality submissions comprising established companies and emerging practices which included 125 different architects from around the world.

The Presidio Trust recently announced the selection of James Corner Field Operations (Field Operations), a New York City-based firm, to design 13 acres of new Presidio parkland at the Golden Gate. Field Operations, best known for leading the design and construction of the High Line in New York City, is celebrated for its work transforming urban sites into treasured public spaces. Field Operations was selected from a group of five internationally-renowned design finalists. The New Presidio Parklands Project is a partnership between the Presidio Trust, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and the National Park Service (NPS).

Building upon the success of Louisville’s Waterfront Park (Phases 1-3), Phase 4 is intended to be the westward expansion of open space along the downtown banks of the Ohio River. The 22 acre site serves as a continuation of community open space along the Ohio River corridor, connecting the downtown core with Portland Neighborhood and West Louisville to the west of the park.

In his lecture, Claude Cormier will demonstrate the creative design process his firm uses in the making of happy public urban landscapes, starting from the early conceptual stage to the end of the construction phase. The lecture will focus on urban projects – Sugar Beach, Toronto; Clock Tower Beach, Montreal; Boules Roses, Montreal; Four Seasons Hotel, Toronto; and Berczy fountain, Toronto – each different in their nature, different in their expression, but at the same time sharing a clear communality in their playfulness.
