The Vertical Forest project aims to build high-density tower blocks with trees within the city. The first example of a Vertical Forest is currently under construction in Milan in Porta Nuova Isola area, part of a larger redevelopment project developed by Hines Italia with two towers which are 80 metres and 112 metres tall respectively, and which will be able to hold 480 big and medium size trees, 250 small size trees, 11.000 groundcover plants and 5.000 shrubs (the equivalent of a hectare of forest).

BDP has won a RIBA competition to transform Rochdale town centre. The competition was launched to improve the look of the town centre and better connect the two sides of the River Roch, following plans to reopen it.

Recently the large parts of England have faced severe flooding with the Environment Agency continuing to issue flood warnings for most parts of England and the River Thames reaching its highest level for 10 years. Sue Illman, President of the Landscape Institute has issues a statement calling for the UK to look beyond the pipe and invest in SuDs as acceptable economic and sustainable way of protecting towns and cities against flooding. Back in November, a shortlist was announced for Russia Park and now the competition is complete with Cushman & Wakefield announced as the winners of competition to design the concept and financial model of “Russia” Theme Park.
The Jury and the Expert Council meeting of the International Contest for the concept and financial model of “Russia” Theme Park devoted to selection of the winner and other finalists was held on the 20th of December.
