In the project “e_co_llectiva” the public space of the streets and the vacant lots in the internal parts of the four building blocks is unified so as to create a single urban garden-park which promotes the concept of collective activity. This intervention is given the title ‘e_co_llectiva’ after ecology (eco), collectivity (collectiva) and new technologies (e).

Bridging Prague: International Design Competition

A new international idea competition is announced by reSITE Festival, ARCHIP (Architectural Institute in Prague) and Skanska, to find new ideas for the River Vltava, in Prague, Czech Republic. Skanska Bridging Prague Design Competition is a challenge for interdisciplinary collaboration on new conceptions to connect the river with the historical capital city.

Cronton Colliery Competition Finalists Announced

We announced the Public Open Space At Cronton Colliery – Ideas Masterplan Competition back in January. The Land Trust’s international design competition attracted 50 entries from all over the world, including innovative projects designed by teams in South Korea, Japan and Italy. The finalists have been announced with HASSELL, Hawkins/Brown, Michael Lee Architects and Edward Architecture & Matthew Riley making the final cut.

EFLA Student & Young Professionals Competition opens for entries

European Federation of Landscape Architects (EFLA) has launched the Student & Young Professionals Competition which aims to help up and coming designers to get exposure for their projects and work. Any landscape architect (a student or a professional under the age of 35) can submit their entries. The competition and the catalogue is divided into 3 categories: Sites, Ideas and Projects.

The new commission for the Fourth Plinth, Powerless Structures, Fig. 101, by artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset, was unveiled recently in London’s Trafalgar Square. The child is elevated to the status of a historical hero in line with the existing iconography of the other statues in the square. Instead of acknowledging the heroism of the powerful, however, the work celebrates the heroism of growing up. The image of a young boy astride his rocking horse encourages viewers to consider the less spectacular events in their lives, which are often the most important. The sculpture invokes life’s everyday activities and questions the tradition of monuments predicated on military victory or defeat.
