The call for abstracts has gone out for the IFLA World Congress 2013 to be held in Auckland on 10 – 12 April 2013. The congress theme for this 50th IFLA World Congress will be Shared wisdom in an age of change – The theme will focus on knowledge sharing around the increasingly challenging issues facing our local and global environments in an age of considerable and frequently dramatic change.

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects have announced the National Award winners for 2012. A wide diverse range of projects from across Australia have been received awards in the categories of Design, Planning, Residential Designed Landscapes, Land Management, Urban Design, Research and Communication and Leadership.

In early June 2012 JMDdesign’s latest project, Blaxland Common Regional Playspace was officially opened. The new regional scale playground and associated kiosk, amenities block and car park were commissioned to expand the recreational opportunities of the Hargreaves and Associates masterplan designed for Blaxland Riverside Park. The park is one of a number of parks that make up Sydney Olympic Parklands.

Alumni Green, the most signiﬁcant outdoor space on the UTS (University of Technology, Sydney) City Campus, will be transformed into a vibrant, tree-lined city space in the latest design to be unveiled under its City Campus Master Plan. The proposal by ASPECT Studios won the design competition recently held by the university. Inspired by some of the world’s great public spaces, the design creates a central meeting place for the university community, ﬁlled with vibrant student-focused spaces.

The first phase of Singapore’s dramatic Gardens by the Bay project opens to the public on 29th June following completion of the 54-hectare £500m Bay South Garden by a world-class British design team led by Bath-based landscape architects, Grant Associates.
