ASPECT Studios with Choi Ropiha Fighera have been chosen by Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority to design and deliver Sydney’s Ultimo Pedestrian Network (UPN). The linear elevated public space will be a highly anticipated and activated city space with many of Sydney’s key cultural and educational institutions located along its edges. The UPN project will provide improved pedestrian and cyclist access and circulation from the Railway Square bus and train interchange into the south-west corner of Darling Harbour.

Three international teams (51N4E, Studio 012, KCAP) have developed visions for how Brussels will look in 2040. The visions are now being shown in the Brussels 2040: Three Visions for a Metropolis exhibition at the Centre for fine Arts in Brussels. The three teams have produced videos, photos, models, urban master plans to present their visions which hope to provide answers for What will Brussels be like in 2040 if its demographic growth continues? How will people get around the city if the motor car is no longer a sustainable means of transport? How can we reduce the social divide and avoid a dual city? How can we offer everyone an opportunity to live and work in the city with dignity? How can we coordinate the development of Brussels with its hinterland?

Taylor Cullity Lethlean were engaged in 2007 to assist DTEI in the preparation of a reference design for the urban and landscape design component of the Northern Expressway. Taylor Cullity Lethlean formed a team involving architects Tonkin Zulaikha Greer, lighting specialist Bluebottle, sculptor Robert Owen and illustration artist Robin Eley. All work was lead and managed by Taylor Cullity Lethlean. A highly collaborative process was undertaken with DTEI staff, particularly NEXY landscape architect Jordana Wilson. Extensive collaboration also occurred with environmental managers, structural and civil engineers.

Recently the finalists for the ARC International Wildlife Crossing Infrastructure Design Competition were selected to continue into Phase 2 of the competition to develop conceptual designs and 3-D models for a wildlife overpass at West Vail Pass along Interstate Highway 70 near Vail, Colorado. The designs are intended to usher in a new generation of wildlife crossing infrastructure using new methods, new materials, and new thinking to reduce structural costs and increase adaptability and ecological function. The five finalist teams are:

The monorail project in Jakarta was abandoned by the developer in 2008 due to legal and financial difficulties, but now the Jakarta Post reports that the project is to be revived.

The project, along with a new mass rapid transit (MRT) system and the revitalization of existing railways, is expected to help solve worsening traffic problems in the capital, Dedy S. Priatna, deputy of infrastructure at the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), told reporters Wednesday.
“This March there should be a decision whether [the Jakarta administration] should pay the money [for the initial construction] to Jakarta Monorail. The updated plan to build the monorail should be completed in August,” he said.
“It should be finished by 2015 or 2016,” he added.
