A plan has been submitted to cover a stretch of California highway with a 24-acre park. It would be built on a deck constructed over the below-grade portion of the Hollywood Freeway (US-101). Organizers argue that by placing a “cap” over one of the world’s most congested freeway systems, the necessary ventilation system would clean the air before re-circulating it back into the environment — creating a positive improvement in air quality for LA. Additionally, the park would also provide a nexus between East Hollywood and Central Hollywood–”alleviating the strain on the community from the initial creation of the freeway through this section of Hollywood.”

Urban agriculture is a broad term to describe agricultural activities and livelihoods in an urban setting. It means more than maintaining farms or gardens in an urban environment. It also includes livestock raising, water management and organic waste management. After all, it includes small- and large-scale activities in horticulture, livestock, fodder and milk production, aquaculture, and forestry — where several activities may be carried out within one enterprise.

Yet, there’s still time before students can walk through patio gardens and bask in eco-friendliness.

Hoku Solar, Inc plan to build Kapolei Sustainable Energy Park which would be the largest photovoltaic (PV) facility on Oahu.
The Kapolei Sustainable Energy Park would be capable of generating approximately 1.5 megawatts of photovoltaic power. Over the life of the system, it would produce enough electricity to power approximately 6,700 homes for one year. This solar facility is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating 38,161 tons of carbon dioxide and saving 120,000 barrels of oil over 25 years. The solar facility will be located in the planned Kapolei Harborside industrial project on a 12-acre parcel owned by the Campbell Company next to the James Campbell Industrial Park.
