The primary concern of the masterplan was to recreate an ecosystem which addresses the physical and psychological comfort of the elephants and Mumbai-based architects Rahul Mehrotra and Associates were invited to lead the initiative. The settlement was to be a habitat for a hundred elephants, which included ones on active duty, calves, convalescent and aging animals as well as their mahouts (Elephant Keepers). The ‘Path Garden’ is designed to inspire visitors with a playful sense of wonder, excitement, and discovery. The engine of this design is a vertically and horizontally exaggerated path that guides visitors through a cinematic arrangement of bold chromatic juxtapositions of plants, water, topography, and garden structures typically experienced in larger landscapes. Spring has sprung in much of the Northern Hemisphere and to celebrate Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has produced a short video featuring Randy Sharp from Sharp & Diamond who have partnered closely with YVR Airport Authority for more than 20 years while providing prime consultant design services, management, and overseeing landscape implementation.
Crater Hill embodies both beauty and modern design. The project includes the landscape design of 16.5 acres and the complete renovation of an existing home to accommodate a sophisticated family’s love of art. Landscape architect, Gavin Duke, worked closely with art collector homeowners to design innovative outdoor living spaces to feature their interests and passions.
