THE SOUTHWOOD FAIRWAY IN WINTER, A RENDERING FROM THE WINNING PROPOSAL “ARPENT”

In December of 2012, 45 teams from 17 countries set forth to re-imagine our landscape, and today(Nov. 4) the University of Manitoba announces that a team of Canadian firms has won its Visionary (re)Generation Open International Design CompetitionWhat has been selected are not the final plans for the site’s development. Rather, this winning concept will guide development as the university continues to work with its stakeholders and the winning team. 

The winners are Janet Rosenberg & Studio Inc., Toronto and Cibinel Architects Ltd., Winnipeg, with Landmark Planning & Design Inc., Winnipeg, and ARUP Canada Inc., Toronto. Their proposal — “Arpent”,  a unit of measurement — will guide the development of a rare and beautiful parcel of land on the Fort Garry campus.

Biannually, the Evergreen Museum and Library in Baltimore hosts “Sculpture at Evergreen,” an outdoor exhibit that grants local artists the opportunity to display their work on the grounds of the museum, creating a seasonal sculpture park for everyone to enjoy.

MIT selects urban design team for East Campus and Kendall Square

MIT  has selected a multidisciplinary urban design team to help advance plans for the redevelopment of Institute-owned property in East Campus and Kendall Square. The team will build upon the work of Elkus Manfredi Architects, which led to the adoption of new zoning regulations in the district, as well as the work of a faculty design group led by the School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P), which recently developed design typologies for the Institute’s property in the Kendall Square area.

Urban design team
The East Campus urban design team will be led by Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects of Atlanta, in cooperation with Michael Van Valkenburgh Landscape Architects of Cambridge and New York. Ken Greenberg, a renowned urban planner from Toronto, will provide urban design guidance. The team also includes Vanasse Hangen Brustlin for transportation analysis, Atelier Ten for environmental design planning, and HR+A Advisors for strategic advisory services.

WWF-UK Living Planet Centre and Headquarters Opens

WWF-UK has today opened its new Living Planet Centre and Headquarters in Woking, with sustainable landscape design provided by UK landscape architects, Grant Associates. The landscape design approach for the 0.9-hectare site reflects a shared aspiration to develop a landscape and building that is integrated and responsive to the site whilst rooted in simple ecological design thinking.

Hermods Plats | Klagshamn Sweden | Mandaworks

The construction work of Hermods Plats is now finished. The square in Klagshamn, Malmö, Sweden is the first implemented design of Mandaworks. The design work started in 2010 and has been carried out in close collaboraSon with Pernilla Theselius at Malmö Municipality. The square forms the center of a new development area of apartment buildings and row houses, in an extension of the old village Klagshamn.
