CABE Space has announced that applications are now open its annual design skills scholarship programme offering up to six people who work in the public realm the opportunity to travel abroad to learn from fellow professionals how a well-designed space can benefit the community it serves.

China hopes for step-by-step progress of low carbon economy-Xinhua

Developing the Low Carbon Economy (LCE), a strategic option to cope with global warming, should follow a step-by-step pattern in accordance with a country’s situation, China’s Vice Environment Minister Zhou Jian said here Thursday.

Zhou made the remarks at a conference on environment protection here.

Sustainable development crucial for the long term – The National Newspaper

Moves towards green building design and construction should not be stalled by a global recession, according to environmental building experts.

Keith Clarke, the chief executive of WS Atkins, an engineering and architectural services firm, said the design and construction industry “simply doesn’t have time” to wait for the end of a recession before taking action on sustainable development.

Foster + Partners join peak oil and energy security taskforce

Foster + Partners is one of eight leading companies launching a report today warning of the grave risks posed by a 2013 peak in oil production. The Oil Crunch: Securing the UK’s Energy Future is published by the newly-formed UK Industry Taskforce on Peak Oil and Energy Security, and is the first multi-company alarm bell to be sounded on the issue. The report urges the government to prioritise the peak oil threat, dramatically increase investment in clean energy and renewables and develop and implement a long-term transport strategy, founded on renewable energy sources.
