As South Boston’s working waterfront transforms into a modern office, retail, and residential high-rise district, Richard Burck Associates (RBA) identified a need for ‘democratic’ open space. This new park design was influenced by research into the site’s native views, wind and sun exposures, and varied social conditions. RBA has created an elevated deck that borders upon a sloping lawn, offering compelling views of the site and harbor beyond and establishing compelling connections to adjacent buildings and uses.

Situated between the banks of Chongqing’s Qing Nian Reservoir and the Palm Spring Geological Park Lake; the floating Islands of Palm Island form a new hospitality precinct within the Palm Springs International Garden. The precinct comprises five buildings (the ‘islands’) collectively housing five restaurants and a teahouse, which have been unified with the surrounding landscape through the creation of a dramatic water courtyard.

Recently the large parts of England have faced severe flooding with the Environment Agency continuing to issue flood warnings for most parts of England and the River Thames reaching its highest level for 10 years. Sue Illman, President of the Landscape Institute has issues a statement calling for the UK to look beyond the pipe and invest in SuDs as acceptable economic and sustainable way of protecting towns and cities against flooding. “The recent floods across the country have once again exposed the UK’s lack of resilience when confronted by extreme wet weather. The existing sewer infrastructure can’t cope, and the government appears paralysed when it comes to fully implementing the Flood and Water Management Act.

Back in November, a shortlist was announced for Russia Park and now the competition is complete with Cushman & Wakefield announced as the winners of competition to design the concept and financial model of “Russia” Theme Park.
The Jury and the Expert Council meeting of the International Contest for the concept and financial model of “Russia” Theme Park devoted to selection of the winner and other finalists was held on the 20th of December.

The West Toronto Railpath is a multi-use public trail and linear park located alongside an active rail line in a former industrial neighbourhood. The design successfully addresses two natures of the city – the wild, other-worldliness of the rail corridor and the regular bustle of residential life – and brings them together in a beautiful and active urban composition. What was an impassable brownfield is now a well-loved neighbourhood connector that has improved both the human and ecological urban habitat.
