The urban design was based on the idea of people to walk and rest on large footpaths with safe and comfortably and also to car and loading and unloading vehicles have enough space for parking. It was also took in consideration the need for public space for local inhabitants and for people passing by, providing squares and ‘pocket’ gardens. These green spaces contribute to join local commuters and at the same time to ensure climatic comfort and boost on biodiversity in urban landscape. The shops and services needed for inhabitants daily routine are located in the two central avenues where the bus stops, bike lanes and roads and parking lots are located.

Foster + Partners Conceptual Plan Render
The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority recently announced that a design team led by Dennis Lau & Ng Chun Man Architects & Engineers (Hong Kong) Ltd, supported by landscape architects, West 8 (Netherlands) and ACLA (Hong Kong), has been chosen to design and manage the development of the Park in the West Kowloon Cultural District (Hong Kong), scheduled to open in stages starting from 2015.
The Park will provide a major green open space in the heart of the city and a waterfront promenade which wraps the entire headland, offering spectacular views over Victoria Harbour.

James Corner Field Operations won the commission to redesign Nicollet Mall, a beloved but aging pedestrian and transit corridor in downtown Minneapolis. Today, Nicollet Mall is in dire need of a physical retrofit and upgrade. It is also part of a larger vision to ensure the growing vitality of downtown Minneapolis and is an important component for Minneapolis to maintain a competitive edge as a place that attracts investment and a place that people want to live, work and play.

Last week we published the design concept for the The Immersery which has now opened to the public as the centrepiece of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. The Immersery is a cloud-like structure suspended above a floating bar and open-kitchen restaurant on the banks of Melbourne’s Yarra River designed by international design practice HASSELL, from a concept dreamt up by the team at Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. WLA interviewed HASSELL by email about the design and various aspects of the design process.
