Shenzhen Bao’an West Coastal Zone Urban Design Competition Shortlist Announced

The People’s Government of Bao’an District, Shenzhen and Urban Planning, Land and Resources Commission of Shenzhen Municipality have announced the shortlist for Conceptual Urban Design of Bao’an West Dynamic Coastal Zone Design Competition. The shortlist includes Chinese and International companies including consortiums. Over 70 applications were received from across the world and the applications were evaluated by 9 experts from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Xiamen, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

The preliminary review meeting of the International Consultation on the Conceptual Urban Design of Bao’an West Dynamic Coastal Zone was held on May 12th, 2014. The election panel read the application documents and concept proposal, had discussions, carried out meticulous election and voted the following 8 finalists (including consortiums, in no particular order):

The organisers have issued an invitation to the shortlisted 8 firms. A Site Visit, question and answer sessions and also the release related consultation documents on May 22nd, 2014.

Rios Clementi Hale Studios’ environmentally friendly landscape design achieves GSA’s cost-saving sustainability goals in three interconnected ways: ecologically, economically, and culturally. In terms of ecology, the landscape design reintroduces native plants that require little supplemental irrigation, provides irrigation by collecting and re-using rainwater, filters stormwater runoff in on-site bioswales, decreases water usage by 85%, and replaces broad areas of unnecessary pavement with shade to help reduce heat island effect.

Tracing Trenčín by Mandaworks and Hosper

Mandaworks and Hosper Sweden have been awarded first prize in the open international urban design competition in Trenčín, Slovakia. On May 19th, 2014 the results were announced. Mandaworks and Hosper were selected from 59 entrants to receive first prize and awarded € 30,000. The competition was organized by the City of Trenčín with support from the Swiss-Slovak Cooperation Programme and financed by contributions from the Swiss Confederation and co-financed from the state budget of the Slovak Republic.

Presidio Trust shortlists 5 firms for New Presidio Parkland

The Presidio Trust, working with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and the National Park Service, has invited five renowned design firms to develop conceptual design and programming for 10 acres of new parkland that will be created in the Presidio atop a dramatic bluff with panoramic Golden Gate views. The design opportunity came about as the result of the demolition of the 75-year-old freeway leading to the Golden Gate Bridge, which is being replaced by the Presidio Parkway, a new at-grade tunnel-covered roadway that will connect the two most expansive public spaces in the Presidio: the historic Main Post and the bay front at Crissy Field.  The project also includes three acres of newly designed parklands adjacent to the Crissy Field Center, including facilities and grounds for youth programs offered by the Trust, Conservancy, and National Park Service.
