The National Capital Commission (NCC) calls on teams of professional artists, landscape architects, architects and landscape designers to take part in a design competition to build a monument to the hundred years of service of the Canadian Navy. They are invited to forward their credentials and examples of prior experience for this first stage of the two-phase competition.
The year 2010 will mark the centennial of the Canadian Navy. To celebrate the occasion the National Capital Commission and the Canadian Navy are pleased to announce this design competition for the creation of a new monument at Richmond Landing, in the core of Canada’s Capital. The unveiling of the monument will take place in May 2011.
Four internationally renowned art and design professionals and a Navy representative, will select up to five finalist design teams, based on qualifications and past experience. Members of this jury are: Malaka Ackaoui, landscape architect; Dr. Laura Brandon, art curator and historian; Joe Fafard, artist; and Don Vaughan, landscape architect. Representing the Canadian Navy is Captain K.J. Pickford.
The teams of finalists will be invited to participate in phase two of the competition, where they will be asked to prepare a design concept and present it to the jury in October 2009.
