Kievit in Green | Antwerp Belgium | BUUR and Hosper with ARA
The previously isolated Kievit district has developed into an international entrance area for the city due to the new TGV station. After earlier realization of the first phase with mainly high-rise offices, the city of Antwerp made an urban plan for the second phase containing a mix of homes, offices and public facilities, and with more space to create a green public domain. For the design of the public space of the Kievit phase 2 area, five design teams were selected to provide a vision and sketch design.

Urban SOS: Frontiers Competition Shortlist

The shortlist for AECOM’s Urban SOS: Frontiers open ideas student competition has been announced. This years competition was seeking integrated design, planning, environmental restoration and engineering responses that address border, gateway and edge/fringe conditions in cities worldwide. Proposals had to address urban sites currently facing chronic liveability challenges that are largely the result of a city’s location on a physical, political, cultural or economic border. Proposals should be implementable.

OLIN, has led the design and construction of Canal Park in Washington, D.C. The park opened to the public on November 16, 2012. One of the first parks built as part of the District’s Anacostia Waterfront Initiative, Canal Park has been designed as a vibrant social gathering place and an economic catalyst for the surrounding neighborhood. The park is also a model of sustainable design, serving as a pilot project for the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES™) and a candidate for LEED® Gold certification.

Andrew Grant and Dan Pearson win Royal Designer for Industry in Landscape Design

The RSA has announced the Royal Designers for Industry awards that began as a means by which to enhance the status of designers today remains the highest accolade for designers in the UK and is conferred to those who have shown sustained design excellence, work of aesthetic value and significant benefit to society. Andrew Grant, founder and director of Bath-based Grant Associates and Dan Pearson, Principal of Dan Pearson Studio are only the second and third British landscape architects to receive the award since it was introduced in 1936.  The first was Kim Wilkie in 2009.

Call for the A.E. Bye Landscape Architecture Archives Research Fellow

The Department of Landscape Architecture at Penn State is announcing a call for the A.E. Bye/ Landscape Architecture Archives Research Fellow for the calendar year 2013. The Fellowship provides a $2,500 stipend for a minimum of one week of archival research in the Eberly Family Special Collections Library at Penn State’s University Park campus in State College, Pennsylvania. The records (drawings, papers, photographs, and videos) of the celebrated twentieth-century American landscape architect A. E. Bye ( as well as those of landscape architects John Bracken and Stuart Mertz) are held at Penn State.
