Coen + Partners wins National Design Award for Landscape Architecture

Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum has announced the winners of the 2015  annual National Design Awards program, which recognize excellence and innovation across a variety of disciplines.

This year’s recipients are Coen + Partners for Landscape Architecture; Michael Graves for Lifetime Achievement; Jack Lenor Larsen for Director’s Award; Rosanne Haggerty for Design Mind; Heath Ceramicsfor Corporate & Institutional Achievement; MOS Architects for Architecture Design;Project Projects for Communication Design; threeASFOUR for Fashion Design;John Underkoffler for Interaction Design; Commune for Interior Design; and Stephen Burks for Product Design.

Congratulations to everyone at Coen + Parners for winning the National Design Award for landscape architecture. Founded by Shane Coen in 1991, Coen + Partners is a renowned landscape architecture practice based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Through a process of collaboration, experimentation, and questioning, the firm’s work embraces the complexities of each site with quiet clarity and ecological integrity.

Assembly Row is a new 50-acre modern-day urban village located just outside of Boston and easily accessible by the new Assembly MBTA Orange Line Station. After years of planning and vision, the site of a long-closed Ford Motor Assembly plant has been transformed into a vibrant and active center of business and culture including luxury shops, local and national restaurants, office space, and high-end housing.

NHA Floating Village | Bangkok Thailand | SSOCA

One of the project’s main characteristics of this project is its strong social component and purpose. The project’s prime goal is to help bring awareness of the relevance of working with nature when dealing with flood conditions in Thailand. With this project, this has been achieved through the design of a complete floating village.

One of the main design elements will be the Flood Interpretative Center.  This floating structure will be hosting permanent exhibitions, teaching about ecology and learning about how to live with water.  The rest of the structures will have different uses, such as commercial, housing, and public park areas.

VIDEO | Sneak Peak at Barangaroo Point Reserve

 

Recently, Barangaroo Point – Sydney’s new six-hectare harbour foreshore park – was opened for an industry and media preview co-hosted by the Barangaroo Delivery Authority and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, ahead of a mid-2015 opening for the public.

Among luminaries of the global design community who attended the opening were landscape architect and founder of PWP Landscape Architecture, Peter Walker, who designed the park.

The Pier Park selected for New St.Petersburg Pier

The Pier Park by Rogers Partners Architects+Urban Designers, ASD, Ken Smith has been selected by The Pier Selection Committee for the new St. Petersburg Pier. The selection and rankings of the finalists were completed last Thursday, 23 April. This ranking was based on several state mandated criteria, including: the design, public input, relevant experience, background and qualifications of the design teams and the technical review of the concepts.
