Texas Legislation Impacts Lighting Design – Live Design

Live Design reports

“May 27, 2009, the legislation has been drafted without any input from lighting designers, and restricts the practice of lighting design to members of other professions and trades, such as architects, engineers and electricians. There are no provisions in the legislation for establishing a licensing standard for lighting designers.”

In several Sections in the Bill HB 2649 it states that only a licensed as an engineer or registered as an architect, landscape architect, or interior designer can provide lighting design services.

This greatly affects a large number of architectural lighting designers and suppliers who offer design services as  apart of their business.

To meet this charge, Hiroko Inoue of Japan and Yvette Dede of Charleston had to merge not only their individual artistic styles and processes but also the requirements of environmental engineering, landscape architecture and aquatic horticulture.

“Touch the Earth” will air on S.C. Educational Television (SCETV) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, and on the South Carolina Channel at 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 23. It is the seventh program in a series detailing creation of the garden’s 16 nature-based sculptures.
