Dandenong Education Precinct is ground-breaking project which involved the amalgamation of three existing secondary schools using an innovative new educational model. The school of 2100 students is organized into seven individual SWIS (Schools Within a School) buildings. The SWIS philosophy is centered on creating intimate, interpersonal learning environments within a larger overall school campus. Each individual school houses 300 students, has its own staffroom, teaching facilities and corresponding outdoor , or “home area”. At a broader level, each of the seven buildings have been carefully integrated around a central communal space which facilitates flexible use by all teachers and students. The project, which has been widely applauded and publicized, was completed in 2011. A future stage which includes shared arts and sports facilities is also planned.

Quayside designed by London-based FoRM Associates in front of Imperial War Museum North by Daniel Libeskind is now open to the public. The new quayside completes the first section of the Irwell River Park masterplan, an 8km long river edge park linking Salford, Manchester and Trafford developed by FoRM Associates in 2010. With the adjoining new Media City foot bridge by Wilkinson Eyre Architects the quayside delivers an important new strategic circulation loop in the Quays, a key regeneration zone in Greater Manchester. SWA Group recently won an invited design competition for Suzhou Center, a 26.5-hectare site located in Suzhou’s still-developing Central Business District, with office, hotel, residential buildings, retail corridors, transit, roof gardens, canals and waterfront parks adjacent to historic Jinji Lake. The landmark Suzhou Center design, which is planned to break ground in April 2012, creates a signature city-center of urban offerings, greenspace and lakefront amenities along an approximately 2-km visual corridor reminiscent of the Washington Mall, Champs Elysees in Paris and other grand urban spines. A striking 88-story arched Gateway Tower, now under construction toward completion in late 2012, anchors the Suzhou Center development. Its arch shape encases the visual corridor connecting Old Town and the city’s other urban center, Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Central Business District.
