World leading landscape architect to design living, breathing Olympic Park – London 2012

The ODA announced that world leading landscape architects LDA Design • Hargreaves Associates has been selected to design the Olympic Park for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which will become a new kind of park promoting sustainable and active living.
The designers will develop detailed proposals for the open spaces in the Olympic Park for the Games and legacy using their combined experience designing groundbreaking parks in London, the UK and across the world, including the Sydney 2000 Olympic Park.

The 2.5 kilometre square Olympic Park is currently being been cleared and cleaned ready for construction to start in the summer. In 2009 work will start creating the parklands and public spaces that will enhance the experience of the London 2012 Games and form the largest new urban park in London since the great Victorian era of park building.

ODA announce shortlist of companies competing to landscape the north of Olympic Park – London 2012

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) announced a world-class shortlist of contractors bidding to manage the landscaping of the northern section of the London 2012 Olympic Park, which will be one of the largest new urban parks in Europe for 150 years.
The four shortlisted following a competitive procurement process are:

* Fitzpatrick Contractors Ltd
* Edmond Nuttall
* Skanska McNicholas
* Balfour Beatty

The ODA expects to appoint a landscape and public realm contractor for the north of the Park in the summer ready to pre-order trees and other plants, and for work to start on site in 2009. It’s expected that the appointed contractor will select and manage a number of specialist subcontractors.

Innovative program to encourage more graduates to enter the architectural profession

RMJM, an international architecture firm with U.S. headquarters in New York City, and Harvard University Graduate School of Design will announce today the launch of a $2 million program aimed at tackling a global shortage of architects. The
announcement will occur at 6:30 p.m. in Piper Auditorium, Gund Hall, Harvard Graduate School of Design, 48 Quincy Street, Boston, MA.

RMJM’s $1.5 million donation, matched by another $500,000 from the Harvard GSD, establishes the “RMJM Program for Research and Education in Integrated Design Practice,” which aims to stem a “brain drain” in the design and construction industry. It is the largest cash donation received by the GSD since a donation from The Aga Khan in 1999.
