With the completion next spring of the new convention centre in Vancouver’s Coal Harbour, there will be a few blocks of new parkland added to the city — but they’re strictly for the birds and the bees.
The expansion project, west of the current convention centre, is being topped off with a 2.4-hectare green — or “living” — roof that covers the flat, sloping segmented roof, and will be the second-largest in North America, next to a Michigan Ford plant covered with grass patches.

Now, the residents of Kensington Palace Gardens, known as “Billionaires’ Row”, want trophy gardens to match – and only award-winning designers will do.
In a bid to outdo their neighbours, residents of the road in west London, who include the steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, the American industrialist Leonard Blavatnik and Jon Hunt, the founder of Foxtons estate agents, are signing up gold medal-winners from the Chelsea Flower Show to design their gardens.

“Architecture School” follows a group of fourth-year architecture students as they conceive, refine and physically build a home for a family looking to reestablish themselves post Hurricane Katrina.
From classroom to construction site, the dedicated students learn on the job as creativity, vision and bold design meet the necessities of materials, budgets and time constraints, all while literally helping to rebuild New Orleans.
“Architecture School” was created by Michael Selditch and Stan Bertheaud.
Selditch, who taught architecture and was a practicing architect for 14 years, also directed the series.
“Architecture School” premieres on Sundance Channel on Wednesday August 20 at 9:00pm e/p.
